Can I be a police officer with tattoos?
If you are thinking of applying to the National Police Corps (CNP), you have probably already heard that there are certain requirements you must meet in advance to be eligible to take and pass the selection process.
Regarding tattoos, you should know that there are rules to be followed if you don’t want to encounter surprises during your attempt to join the force. Although tattoos are increasingly accepted and normalized, we detail them below so you can keep them in mind and always know what they are:
- The first thing to know is that tattoos by themselves do not constitute a reason for exclusion, as stated in Organic Law 2/1986.
- Bear in mind that they will ask you about your tattoos in the interview during the selection process; whether you are deemed fit will depend on your answers.
- The type of tattoo you have will also be a determining factor — keep in mind that having flowers tattooed is not the same as a symbol of a particular ideology.
- You are likely to have a better chance of admission if they are not visible with the summer uniform (short sleeves), although they will not automatically exclude you if they can be seen.
As you can see, tattoos are not a reason for exclusion when applying to the National Police Corps (although they are for some other law enforcement agencies), but the meaning you attach to them and the answers you give when asked about them can tip the balance in your favor or, conversely, get you removed from the selection process.
We wish you the best of luck and encouragement!
