The Combat Arms Earplugs (CAE) 4.1 from the American brand 3M are designed to protect our ears from harmful sounds, such as those produced by firearms. With these earplugs, you will still be able to hear your teammates, but they will isolate you from loud sounds.
It has a lever to open or close the sound filter; in open mode, you will hear more easily what is happening around you and it will filter sounds that are over 110dB. In closed mode, it will isolate you from continuous sounds, such as the engine of a helicopter or other vehicles.
The open mode will be active when the "CAE" lever part is pressed and the closed mode when the "3M" lever is pressed. Since you won't be able to read these letters on your plugs while using them, it's easier to remember that the upper position is closed and the lower one is open.
It has a retainer so that the plugs do not move even with sudden movements. The sound filter is patented by 3M Peltor.
