Each monocular is meticulously assembled, purged and tested one by one with precision tooling. The PVS-14 monocular is the standard night vision unit used by most NATO armed forces worldwide, and must pass rigorous quality and endurance tests to be approved by NATO.
Among many other tests, they are drop tested to meet MIL-STD-810G standards, which consists of 26 drops to a height of 1.22 meters (4 feet) onto concrete.
All intensifier tubes may have some imperfection in the image represented by spots of less than 0.3mm, usually there are only one or two visible imperfections, but these do not affect the vision as they simply blur with the image being viewed.
The FOM (Figure of metric) is a simple way to calculate the performance of a viewfinder, it is easily calculated by multiplying the resolution x the noise of the image we see through the viewfinder. The higher the FOM, the better the quality of vision.
